Device Servers
Serial to Ethernet Converters
A Device Server connects devices with a USB, RS232, RS422, or RS485 serial interface to a local area network for transmission of serial data over Ethernet. With a physical wired Ethernet network connection on one side, and one or more serial ports on the other side, Device Servers enable network access to attached devices as if they were locally connected to the serial port. Device servers make it easy to put electronic equipment on an Ethernet network making M2M communication possible in a wide variety of applications by enabling client access independent of any operating system or proprietary protocol. While some device servers can be very simple devices, it is best practice to use a device server with advanced security functionality, data encryption, and user authentication to ensure network data transmissions, and access to network equipment, is protected.
